APS Gifted & Talented banner and logo: Challenging the edge of potential

Dear Parents,

We want to assure you that the Gifted and Talented Department of Aurora Public Schools remains dedicated to supporting your children as we navigate through these uncharted territories created by the Coronavirus pandemic. We will continue to post information for you and your children during these challenging times. We will also continue to work with schools, GT Leaders, and teachers who are serving our remarkable advanced learners!

The Aurora Public School website has helpful information about emotional and mental health resources. The uncertainty and fear surrounding this virus can be overwhelming to anybody and we want you to know there is help available. One resource from the link above contains suggestions on how to talk to your child about COVID-19. While you have certainly been fielding questions over the past few weeks, the questions are sure to continue. You may find something here will be of use.

The Colorado Department of Education's Office of Gifted Education has posted support for gifted learners during these challenging times created by the upheaval in our lives from the coronavirus. You can find many links to helpful resources for your family here. www.cde.state.co.us/gt/gt/ge_covid#fam

Also, NAGC, The National Association for Gifted Children, has created a page dedicated to provide COVID-19 information and resources for parents, educators, and care-givers of gifted children. The site contains current information and is updated on a regular basis. With things changing rapidly, this is is a good place to know.

While we are not able to hold in-person parent or family meetings at this time, we are planning for opportunities we will provide in the 2020-2021 school year.

We heard you! Based on your feedback from the survey, we have created a Gifted and Talented Family Newsletter. In it, you will find information around a specific topic each month, as well as recurring columns such as Family Ties and Dear Gigi. They will be emailed directly to you and posted here. Check it out below.

As soon as we are able, we will see you at our Family Nights at the PLCC again. We are definitely looking forward that!

Until then, please be well and be safe.
